Mary Rose Fight Back Earns Bath Victory
Bath's Mary Rose team of Andrew Willis, Daniel Mills (captain), Ian Lewis and Peter Miles put on a great team performance to score an unlikely 4-3 victory over East Dorset at home on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May.
After going 3-0 down at lunch time thanks to a remarkable last turn victory by Peggy Nutland over Ian Lewis the Bath team appeared to be virtually down and out. However with the knowledge that only 4 wins out of 4 would be enough Bath started positively in the afternoon with both Daniel Mills and Andrew Willis scoring comfortable victories over David Williams and Jonathan Wood respectively.
Peter Miles was leading Peggy Nutland on a difficult lawn and victory was hard fought but Miles stuck to his task and pegged out to win by 10. This tied the match at 3-3 leaving Ian Lewis still battling it out with East Dorset captain John Crowe. This tense match went on for a further hour with Lewis finally coming out on top by 7 points. Bath will now take on either Bowdon or Wrest Park in the quarter finals.
Andrew Willis (2.5) & Daniel Mills (3) lost to Jonathan Wood (2.5) and David Williams (3) -11

In the afternoon singles Amos trounced Nailsea captain Kristian Chambers with bisques to spare. Jim Field won one and lost one, as did Daniel Mills, who held on by one point on time in a nervous finish against Brian McCausland which sealed the match 4-3 in Bath's favour.
