Bath Host All England Area Final

Bath played host to the All England Area Final for the South West region over the weekend of 5th and 6th September. The tournament was managed by Daniel Mills and contested in very good spirt by 12 players from various different clubs.

After some very exciting matches there were three players on 4 wins out of 5. David Richards (handicap 5) of Nailsea was declared the winner by virtue of a slightly better 'quality of wins' score than his closest rivals. Sarah Melvin (10, Dyffryn) and David Spear (9, Blewbury) also qualifed for the National Finals to be played at Roehampton Croquet Club on the weekend of 19th and 20th September.

Hester in Bank Holiday Win

The club held a successful Short Croquet competition among members on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August. After 6 games each, Hester Henbury who only took up croquet in 2008, beat Mo Bell in the final with a nail-biting +1 on time victory.

The match was decided by a 'golden hoop' with both players for the same hoop. Bell's ball stuck in the hoop, only for her opponent to be near enough to hit the ball and run the hoop herself to win by 1.

Dennis Graham Somersaults to Victory!

Bath's own Dennis Graham won the Autumn Salver over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd August 2009 with 5 wins out of 6. As you'll see from the picture above he was so happy that he performed his own victory somersault on lawn 2! Klim Seabright of Cheltenham was a very close runner up.

Miles Victorious at Budleigh

Peter Miles won the Stone Challenge Cup at Budleigh Salterton on Saturday 8th August, beating Richard Mills of Sidmouth in the final. The victory was all the more sweeter for Miles having lost in the final of the same event in 2008.

At the same tournament Nigel Amos lost in the final of the Longman Cup after winning it in 2008. He was soundly beaten -25 by local Budleigh player Tony Bower.
